The LGBTQ Studies program offers a 6-course minor that analyzes sex, sexuality, gender identity, and queer experience across many different fields of inquiry. Students who minor in LGBTQ Studies will devote significant study to the experiences of people who do not conform to culturally dominant identities of sexuality and gender: lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer. They will also examine the intellectual, creative, and political production, and presence, of LGBTQ+ people throughout histories and across multiple intersections.
A total of 24 credit hours, from one required course and 5 approved electives, is required for completion of the minor. The following curriculum chart provides the requirement(s) and elective courses that count toward the minor. LGBTQ Studies, as an endeavor, is profoundly interdisciplinary by nature and draws on university resources and faculty expertise in a wide array of fields. Students in this minor will have the opportunity to analyze the experiences of LGBTQ+ people through critical perspectives on sexuality and gender as complex social, cultural, biological, and historical phenomena. This minor is an excellent complement to all majors, and especially for those looking to gain a focus in working with LGBTQ+ communities in a variety of careers.
