Theatre student ensemble

The BA in Theater provides students with an interdisciplinary, humanities-based theater education, including coursework in acting, design, history, playwriting, and directing. The program is designed for students interested in a broad approach to their theater education, as well as students who would like to pursue a double-major.

  • Students will be able to apply textual analysis, critical thinking, and research to the practical application of their theatrical interests, as evidenced by curricular work on scenes, theatrical design, scripts, dramaturgical notes, or directing proposals.   • Students will be able to articulate connections between theatrical histories; theatrical theories; and practical application as evidenced by written essays, verbal arguments, and practicum assignments.   • Students will be able to identify the practical application of theatrical skills, including communication, collaboration, and creative problem-solving, to areas outside of theater production as evidenced by written essays, verbal arguments, and portfolio assignments.   • Students must earn a C- or better WRD 103 and WRD 104.     

  • Readiness for MAT 120 is determined by the math placement test taken online after admission. Students may need to take developmental coursework prior to MAT 120.  The MAT 120 requirement may be waived by passing a dedicated proficiency exam or it may be fulfilled by credit for advanced math coursework earned  in-residence at DePaul (MAT 135MAT 136MAT 147MAT 148MAT 149MAT 150MAT 151MAT 152 MAT 155MAT 156, or equivalent) or earned externally either as transfer credit from another college/university or as test credit through AP, CLEP, IB, or International A and A/S Level exams. Calculus course(s) may be used to fulfill any of the three QR/MCD requirements.
